Hollywood Studios is the third theme park that opened at Walt Disney World. Opening on May 1, 1989, it was originally called Disney-MGM Studios. It was renamed to Hollywood Studios on January 7, 2008, when Disney and MGM decided not to renew their contract. This is the park that has gone through the most changes since it’s conception. Magic Kingdom is Disney’s flagship park. It opened on October 1, 1971. Sadly, Walt Disney never was able to see his “Florida Project” come into fruition. Walt Disney died of lung cancer, at the age of 65, on December 15, 1966. His brother, Roy, postponed his retirement to make sure his brother’s dream became a reality.
